For those of you that actually read my blog, I am sure you have noticed that I was missing in action for a while. Well this past December 4th, 2011, I finally gave birth to my baby girl Samantha so I ahve had my hands full recovering from a c-section and taking care of a newborn. Though I don't have any new dollhouse miniature pictures to share with you all, I do have a picture of a real life miniature that is by far my best creation yet!

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your ear.......... Ah yes, the wonderful Christmas season is almost upon us and it's no secret that it's my FAVORITE holiday of all! As most of you know I am only 4 weeks away from the arrival of my baby girl Samantha so I will definetly not have time to make any Christmas minis in December, but if you really know me you KNOW I could not let Christmas come and go without making some Christmas mini pieces, so I decided to start my 2011 Christmas collection early this year. Here are a few pictures of a quick and easy roombox I put together to use as a prop scene and below are just a few of the pieces I have started working on and added them to my online store. BLOOD DRIPPED CANDELABRA AND MORE

As some of you may have already heard, I had quite a scare this past Tuesday! I went to my routine doctors appointment to check up on baby Samantha when all of a sudden the nurse rushes in my room and asks me if I'm having any pains, in which I answered "No". Apparently the monitor I was hooked up to picked up on some VERY strong contractions. Considering I am not due for another 5 weeks, this was NOT good news, so the doc put me on some meds to control the contractions, pulled me from work and has me on strict bed rest! For those of you that know what a active person I am due to my mild case of OCD (lol), bed rest is like a prison sentence!!! But gotta follow doctors orders to assure baby Samantha doesn't arrive until she's ready to :) On the bright side, this bed rest will give me plenty of time to make some new minis. I plan on starting on a Christmas collection but before that I decided to whip out one more Halloween piece. Here's a Blood Dripped Candelabra that would go beautifully in a Castle, Witches House or any other creative scene you could come up with. With Halloween only a few days away I rushed last night to get in some last minute miniature pieces to add to my collection and I ended up making a feast fit for a gruesome being like an Ogre perhaps! Tonights menu consists of "Human Stew" as the main course and your choice of "Sweet Sugar Bones" or "Eye POPPING Pie" for dessert! LOL Enjoy!

I can't believe it's almost Halloween already! Where has the time gone? It seems like just yesterday I had so many plans to make a whole LOT of Halloween mini pieces and now I find myself with only 10 days till Halloween! There is nothing like a glass of ice cold Strawberry Lemonade to quench your thirst on a hot summer day! Especially when it has pieces of real fruit in it!! Yummy! Here is a prep board with all the ingredients needed. I am quite found of this piece. I think that the "REAL GLASS" pitcher and glasses add an extra realism to it. Enjoy!

I'm sure all of you remember the Homemade Bread that I made this past Monday right? Well I decided to make some sandwiches using that bread but realized I was missing a few ingredients so I left everything where it was a went to the store. Upon returning I was shocked to find this!!!!!

The rats were feasting on my bread! Haha........ I was in a goofy mood last night and since I had some rats I had just created the night before I thought incorporating them in a scene would be great. These little critters are are covered with 100% silk doll hair. Hope you enjoyed my little story!

The key to making a miniature scene look realistic is understanding that not everything can be perfect becuase lets face it, there's nothing perfect about "real life". Seeing as how I am still in the "bread making" mood, last night I made a basket of moldy bread that looks wonderfully gross! LOL

MAKING HOME MADE BREAD

Remember when you were young and mom would have some homemade bread baking in the oven? Wasn't that smell wonderful! Makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Unfortunately I never learned to make homemade bread. On the bright side, I am able to bake bread in the oven only it's made out of clay! LOL ..... Last night I was inspired to make some mini bread and once the bread was made I knew I had to make a prep board to go with it. This bread may not smell or taste as good as homemade bread but I think it looks pretty darn close to it. Have a great day all!

I don't know why but I have always liked the look of fruit displayed in a pretty container. Only problem with displaying real fruit though is that it doesn't last very long. So of course the only obvious thing to do would be to make it in miniature where it could last a lifetime!

Isn't the Summer season GREAT! I mean what is there not to love about summer? It brings nice warm weather, swimming at the beach, picnics galore and my favorite, firing up the BBQ grill for a yummy summer cookout with friends and family to create wonderful memories. Every fourth of July my family and I head up to the lake for a full day of bbqing, playing games, laughing and watching a spectacular firework show. I am so excited about this coming Monday that I just had to create a BBQ grill in miniature. Hopefully this will inspire some of you to get out those grills and start cooking!

Have you ever stopped to wonder WHY we dye eggs for easter or why we give Easter baskets to kids? Here's a little history on the Easter Egg:

In Pagan times the egg represented the rebirth of the earth, which allowed people to become hopeful of spring after a long winter. With the emergence of spring, the earth burst forth and was reborn, just as an egg bursts forth with new life.

The term Easter comes from Eostre, the Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring, to whom the month of April was dedicated. So, along with the spring equinox and spring festivals, people started exchanging eggs as a symbol of creation, new-life, and a resurrection of nature after winter. With the coming of Christianity, the Easter egg became a religious symbol. The egg changed from representing nature’s rebirth to the rebirth of man. The hatching Easter chick became a symbol of the tomb from which Jesus emerged.

By the Middle Ages decorating and coloring eggs for Easter became the custom in England. The wealthy covered eggs in gold, while the peasants dyed theirs with flowers and herbs.

By the 17th century people started exchanging egg-shaped toys and eventually, by the 19th century, the first chocolate eggs were made in Europe. During this time, Peter Carl Faberge, a well-known goldsmith created the most famous decorated Easter eggs. He was hired by Russian Czar Alexander to make a special Easter gift for his wife. These Faberge eggs had an outside shell of platinum and enameled white which opened to reveal a smaller gold egg. The smaller egg then opened to show a golden chicken and a jeweled replica of the Imperial crown. Fifty-seven of these eggs were made in all.

I know there is still a month or so until Valentines day, but I couldn't help myself from making some mini cupcakes. Once I was done with the cupcakes I realized my mini crave hadn't been satisfied so I started to make a preparation table. I titled this one "Sweets For My Sweet" because that's what we do on Valentines Day, we buy or bake something SWEET for our SWEET. Enjoy!

With Thanksgiving come and gone it's time to start focusing on Christmas! My favorite time of year where there's tons of cookies and eggnog and best of all family time around the tree. Is there anyone that HASN'T seen the movie "A Christmas Story"? Odds are you've all seen it and who can forget the scene where the dogs ruin Christmas dinner. Oh the horror! The look on the fathers face was priceless! Yep that sure is a good movie and I was fortunate enough to have been commissioned by a fellow miniaturist, whom is creating a "Christmas Story" room box, to make a Christmas dinner turkey that looks like the dogs have gotten to it. Haha.... I really do love these unique projects. I probably could have torn up the turkey a little more, but I wanted to make sure it could still be recognized as a turkey. Enjoy!

This past Tuesday, I decided to pull out my Epoxy Resin and start to experiment and play with it. I always thought that mixing large amounts would be hard, becuase you have to have the EXACT amount of each in order for it to set properly, but it's alot easier to use than I thought. After mixing it I needed stuff to fill, so I filled a bunch of tea pots and tea cups and even played with created a "spilled" look. I also made some Halloween goodies. Here are a few pics of some things I made while experimenting.

ALICE IN WONDERLAND CHANDELIER

My Alice in Wonderland chandelier is DONE! All I need to do is add some shine to it. I was asked to replicate a life size chandelier and wasn't sure I could do it, but I have to say that this is by far one of my favorite miniature pieces. Maybe it's because it's a "non food" miniature which is so different from what I usually work on. Needless to say, I am very pleased with the outcome and I know my client will be too. Below are pictures of the life size version as well as my mini creation. The only difference is that I used candles instead of lamp shades, because there would be no electricity in the woods for the Mad Hatters Tea Party :) LOL.. Enjoy and thanks for looking!

I am finally done with the Mad Hatter Tea Party commission. I wasn't able to fit all of the goodies I made on one table, but at least you can get an idea with these pictures I have taken of what it will look like. Now it's on to the second part of the commission, which is an Alice an Wonderland chandelier. Not sure I can pull this one off, but I'm going to give it a try. Enjoy!

So I was comissioned by a friend to make some goodies for her Mad Hatters Tea Party roombox and as most of you know, I LOVE a challenge, however this one has proven a little more difficult than I thought. My first attempt was the green cake seen in the movie, which I made last night. Here is what it is suppose to look like...

I had such wonderful comments on my peach board that I decided to take on the challenge of making it in half inch scale. Let me tell you, that it was no easy task coloring those peaches, but am quite pleased with how they turned out. I may have to try a few of my other minis in quarter scale :)

I thought once the wedding planning was over, it was smooth sailing, well boy was I wrong!! Changing my last name has been a nightmare! I was at the market the other day and after spending an hour doing the grocery shopping, I walked up to the check stand, only to find that all of my 3 cards were being declined. Aparently, my bank closed those cards before sending me my new ones! WAMU, I want you back! Anyways, I am FINALLY getting back into my mini routine. Here is my first miniature made as a married woman. LOL

Hello all you beautiful people! I'm baaaack! Did you miss me? Yes that's right, I have been MIA since the first week of March becuase I took time off for my wedding and honeymoon. I have alot to catch up on, so I won't be making any minis for at least another week or two, but until then, I have some fabulous pictures of The White House exhibit that I visited at the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley, CA. Easter Minis For a Monday Afternoon!

Kings Cake History

I love this time of year because it means spending time with family and lots and LOTS of baking! This time of year, my house is sure to be full of candies, cookies, tamales and something called Rosca de Reyes that is deeeeelicious! For those of you unfamiliar with it, here is a brief history:

In some Spanish cultures it is tradition to make a "Rosca de Reyes" or (king's cake) for the holiday season. It is traditionally eaten on January 6, during the celebration of the "Día de Reyes" (Wise Men Day). In most of Spain, Mexico, and sometimes Hispanic communities in the United States, this is the day when children get presents from the Three Wise Men (not from Santa). They leave a shoe outside, filled with hay or dried grass for the animals the Kings ride, before they go to bed along with a note. The Mexican “rosca de reyes” has an oval shape. For decoration, Mexican people use dried and candied fruits like figs, quinces or cherries to decorate it.

I hope you have enjoyed learning a little about my Christmas tradition's. And of course I had to make it mini along with some good old fashioned sugar cookies. Enjoy!

FIRST TURKEY ATTEMPT

What's Christmas dinner without a turkey, ham or even pork leg?! My miniature group had a swap theme called Thanksgiving Feast and I was in charge of making the turkey. I was terrified of how it would turn out becuase I had never attempted to make one before. The first turkey came out ok, but I wasn't satisfied with the wings as they were MUCH too thick. My second turkey however, came out quite nicely as did my attempt at slicing one of them, or least I think it did, but I'll let you be the judge. Enjoy!

With Halloween right around the corner, I can't help but get in the mood to make some freakishly delicious minis. Some of these include Eerie Eyeball Empanadas, Eyeball Soup, Pumpkin Punch, Spider Web Cheesecake, Pumpkin Cheesecake, Bobbing for Eyeballs and my favorite, the Human Hand Candy Bowl. Since my last post, I have been busy making, sorting and mailing out swaps in my miniature group, making new Halloween minis, which I will be posting at a later date, planning my upcoming wedding which is driving me CRAZY and finishing my sewing room box. I am very pleased with how it turned out. I was going for a modern look as opposed to the traditional Victorian look most opt for and I think I achieved it, but I'll let you be the judge. Hello Ladies and Gents! It's been a while since I've posted I know, but I have a good reason. I was in a car accident, totaled my car and was injured, so minis were out of my life for a while. But I'm BACK and have been working on a group project with some of my Yahoo Mini Group friends. We've been making a sewing room box and I've been having a blast and learning so much at the same time. This is my first time making a room box and isn't as hard as I always imagined it to be. In the process of making my box I decided that making the outside of my box look like a real notions box would look great and boy was I right. I LOVE how it turned out! Below you can see a few pictures of the transformation. I'll upload more pictures once I have added the inside accesories and it is completely furnished. Enjoy!

HOLA! Hope everyone is doing GREAT! I know I am, I mean this is going to be a 3 day weekend, which means more mini time for me. Woohoo! So with all the cakes I've been making, I figured I should make a prep board to go with them, so here it is! Enjoy!

A LITTLE BIT OF CUBA

For those of you that don't know, I am of Cuban decent and my grandmother still lives in Cuba. On my last trip there, I brought back some Cuban cigars, just to have, as I am not a smoker. They have been on my shelf for years now, and thought I would never have a use for them. Well boy was I wrong! How many of you have purchased those mini boxes of cigars to put in your dolls house study. I know I have and though they are very nice, they are just to plastic looking for me, so I decided to make my own. I took my REAL Cuban cigar and placed it in a plastic baggy with water so it would moisten the leaves and I would be able to unroll it. Once I did that, I carefully cut the leaves to a "mini" size, took a pinch of the tobacco and rolled a mini cuban cigar. I then added a bit of glue to the leaf, to keep it from unrolling. Here is the final product. ENJOY!

There's nothing I love more then a simple piece of bread and CHEESE. Sometimes all that rich food just doesn't sound good. Or even a plain old tomatoe and mayo sandwhich. Anyways the other day, while I was in the kitchen fixing myself a cheese sandwich, I looked at the cutting board and decided it would look great in miniature, so here you have it! I added the jar of pickled onions just for show. LOL

MY SUSHI ISN'T FISHY!

Hello fellow mini addics! I gotta tell ya, I LOVE my sushi rolls! My favorite place to eat is a place called Benihanas. They serve Japanese Cuisine. I visit them so often, that I even met my fiance there, who's a chef. Now I can have sushi anytime LOL. Anyways, I came up with the idea to make a Roombox with a scene from the Japanese Restaurant for my fiance and here is an example of some of the food I will be making. Here you have a complete sushi dinner which includes Onion Soup as the appetizer. Some Sashimi rolls with mustard dipping sauce accompanied by a vegetable roll and of course some saki to wash it down with. But Not too much saki or you'll be seeing double.
